Who can apply
Information is available from the contacts of this subsidy form.
What can be applied for
Subsidy for research projects (at most 160.000 euro for the Dutch part as well as the Flemish part), scholarly meetings (at most 12,500 euro) and grants for the exchange of researchers (postdoctorals) in Dutch language, literature and history. Also available are grants for the simultaneous stay of a Flemish and a Dutch researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and the Social Sciences (NIAS).
When can be applied
The deadlines for the different types of application are as follows:
- for exchange of researchers, scholarly meetings and stay at NIAS: 1 November 2006;
- for research programmes and scholarly meetings: 1 February 2007.
The programme runs from 2003 to 2007.
Extra Information
Exchange of researchers takes place between the two countries and not necessarily between two universities. It may therefore happen that the two researchers do not replace each other. For that reason the grant may also include, along with travel and accommodation expenses, a (partial) reimbursement of the costs of replacing the researchers involved.
Criteria
To all subsidy forms the strict condition applies that they are designed for research or activities that are carried out by Flemish and Dutch researchers jointly. Research proposals that do not have at least one Flemish and one Dutch component are not taken into consideration. Other criteria are the scientific quality, the creditability of the researcher(s), the expertise of the supervisor(s) and the feasibility of the research within the proposed term.
Procedure
Applications must be submitted simultaneously with NWO and the Fund for Scientific Research-Flanders. The VNC selection committee will put applications before at least two independent advisors, normally one from the Netherlands and one from Flanders. Applicants can put forward the names of at most two non-advisors, i.e. advisors who will not be asked to give advice. The committee will give its advice to the VNC, who will make the final decision.
Budget
This subsidy form has a yearly budget of 2,154,000 euro.
Financiers
NWO contributes to the programme 1.3 million euro on an annual basis, the Fund for Scientific Research-Flanders contributes 0.854 million euro.
