The aim of NWO’s investment subsidies is to promote a balanced national investment pattern as well as the investment policy of research institutions. Investment Subsidies NWO Medium are designed for investments with a contribution of the granting organisaton of between 110,000 and 1,500,000 euro. Applications in the field of health research are dealt with by the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw). The ZonMw Board awards the grants.
Who can apply
Universities, NWO institutes, scientific libraries and information-providing academic institutions. KNAW institutes cannot apply. Applicants at medical faculties or academic hospitals must report to their faculty. The faculty decides on the basis of a local selection which (three at most) applications will be submitted to ZonMw. Other applications, in which the medical faculties are not involved, can be submitted directly.
What can be applied for
Subsidy for the purchase of scientific equipment with a ZonMw contribution of 110,000 up to 1,500,000 euro (incl. VAT). This also applies to creating data collections and accompanying software.
The applicant’s own minimum contribution is 25%, so ZonMw's contribution can never be more than 75% up to a maximum of 900,000 euro.

Criteria
The criteria are described in detail in the call for proposals 2011-2012. Vital is the innovative character of the equipment, together with the quality of the research to be done with it. Also of importance are societal relevance, national significance and technical criteria.
Budget
For round 2010-2011 ZonMw has approximately 3 million euro available.
